Ship in a bottle

Nelson’s ship in a bottle is a piece of art by Yinka Shonibare. It was on display on Trafalgar Square’s fourth plinth for over a year (replaced recently with a new art work ). The ship is a model of HMS Victory, Nelson’s flagship at the battle of Trafalgar. The sails are made of the richly patterned textiles of the  African dress. Since it was high up on the plinth, it was difficult to see the intricately detailed ship and only its sails were visible from below.
